Automating Task using Macros - Make Computing More Easier

From a Few days i have been on Twitter and for a few days i almost forgot to check the mails and the result was about 300+ mails from twitter informing me about guys who were following me back. Now due to recent change in follower policy i couldn't use scripts to Auto Follow them back and manually checking the mails and following those guys would take hell lotta time , so thought to teach the computer to automate the whole process for me using a Loop . So googled for Softwares to create and execute Macros  to do the task and found a few Free Softwares like this

>> AutoHotkey
>> AutoIT
>> Do It Again

Among which i think Do It Again was the Simplest one. I downloaded it Made it to start Recording.Just clicked on a Twitter Profile link then click on "Follow" Button on the Next page which was opened and after It was shown "You are Following this person" then closed the Tab. And i stopped the recording. Now the unread mails were around 352+ Mails , so i just set the Macro to repeat the same step about 352 Times and Started / Executed the scripts and voila ! It ran flawlessly . There might be few exceptions like the web page or another component may become irresponsive , for such cases , there is a Delay Setting provided with the program , use it to avoid such situations a Bit.

This Program made me even more lazy than i was ever !

Special Mentions is the AutoIT , It got an Advanced Script Editor , so you can configure even more Advanced Features of it , the Script editor let you script / edit more aspects of it.

Looking for a Third Party Editor for Blogger , Wordpress , TypePad etc

I was thinking to blog about a topic , suddenly though that "it would be great if some third party extensible editor existed for Blog Medium like Blogger , WordPress , TypePad , Jeeran, LiveJournal and Windows Live Spaces" . So i googled and found one . Although this isn't a External Software BUT is rather a Plugin for FireFox Browser.

This Plugin is named "ScribeFire" and can be downloaded from Mozilla Addon Page . Its Makes the job of Blogging a lot easier ! At features are damn good and it is bound to get you more addicted to blogging now.

Oracle, not IBM, will be buying Sun Microsystems in $7.4 billion deal

This news is just in from CNET.com that Apart from what was rumored that IBM was gonna Buy Sun , Turned out to be that Oracle will be buying it apart from IBM . Lets see but the news quoted is as follows.

Oracle and Sun announced Monday that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share in cash. That puts the value of the transaction at approximately $7.4 billion, or $5.6 billion net of Sun's cash and debt.

Oracle President Safra Catz said in a statement:

We expect this acquisition to be accretive to Oracle's earnings by at least 15 cents on a non-GAAP basis in the first full year after closing. We estimate that the acquired business will contribute over $1.5 billion to Oracle's non-GAAP operating profit in the first year, increasing to over $2 billion in the second year. This would make the Sun acquisition more profitable in per share contribution in the first year than we had planned for the acquisitions of BEA, PeopleSoft and Siebel combined.

Sun's board has unanimously approved the transaction, according to Oracle. The deal is expected to close this summer, subject to Sun stockholder approval, regulatory approvals, and closing conditions.

Microsoft Windows 8 [ Codenamed "Midori" ]

Well While the Beta Testers along with the the rest of the Windows 7 Beta Users were struggling to test a Version which will stay as the Latest Build for atleast some time. At that moment Microsoft Started working on Windows 8 and Windows 9 also ! although the news about Windows 9 Being on its development Stage is still a rumor . But the News about Windows 8 which is supposed to be Worked under the Codename " Midori " is already out !

The Grand Thing is that this Version of Windows is going to be Made from Scratch , The thing is that as normally a New Windows OS is based on the Older one by tweaking the UI or Features a Bit , But this new windows which will be made using new Programming Language Like C # / F # rather than what was used to built Earlier Windows OS till Windows 7 (Languages Like C / C++ was used ) . So we are gonna see a Windows OS totally Made from Scratch in Windows 8 . Chances are No NT Kernel !


Also there are rumors that this version of Windows (Windows 8) could be emphasizing more on the Web Centric aspect ( Like Azure Base ) So will it also have a Part dedicated for Cloud Computing ? Guess so .

Repairing the Windows 7 Animated Boot Screen.

Well quite a few days ago , I installed XP along with Windows 7 already present on my systems , and as usual the Lateron installation of XP Erased and Rewrote the Window 7 MBR (Master Boot Records ) and wrote the NTLDR (Windows NT Boot Loader) . And it as usual resulted in a loss over the Boot Menu and i lost the entry of Windows 7 on it , well that was settled when i did a Custom BCD Editing of it using EasyBCD and the Boot Entries were successfully written , but shortly after that during the time of Booting into Windows 7 i saw that the Windows 7 Animated Boot Screen wasn't there and got replaced with the old boring Vista's Boot Screen.

So Here is WHY ?

The invalid and wrong boot screen for Windows 7 is due to missing locale entry in boot record, which failed to be set when editing or rebuilding the BCD.

And here is how to fix it .

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click on "Command Prompt" and -> Select Run As Administrator -> When Prompted click "Yes".

At the Console Type these Command and Hit Enter.

bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US

And the output is shown as follows.

If the Above Message isn't shown then make sure that you are running the Command Prompt with the Admin rights i.e. "Run as Administrator".

If all goes right then the Animated Boot Screen should be fixed.

Windows 7 Build 7105 and Other Release news

Well it takes only a few hours untill the Next Build is ready and leaked upon the Internet through the Popular Media of Torrent ad Downloaded by the Whole World , and even before the people can suggest a new improvement over a feature or may point out a bug , they see the new compiled and ready for download. Now i have my personal experience over it from a few months already from the Date MicroSoft Released its First version at PDC after that it took no turns and developed even more faster that its Prior OSes Did , The TeamWork and the Improvements are much promising and appealing and I always praised this effort of MicroSoft which is leading to the Rapid Increase in the Version No Increase of Windows 7 Day by Day !!

Now this news is just in that Windows Developer team has Already compiled the Windows 7 Build 7105 and the Details were interpreted through the file name of the build which was

"6.1.7105.0.090404-1235_x86fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GB1CULFRER_EN_DVD"

Which says the Compilation date to be 4th April 2009.

Size : 2.58 GB

And the Rest of the Detail of the RC release was supossed to be August of this year which seems now to be postponded till September (Note : The Fourth Quarter was suppossed to be the Release time of Windows 7 Final) But the the RC seems to be releasing around that Time [Although this news is just a rumour now] As another blog confirmed the time line for release schedule as below .

• April 2009 for the RC escrow
• May 2009 for the public release of Windows 7 RC
• Windows 7 RTM for September 2009
• Windows 7 to be released no later than January 2010

Taking MOST out of your avast! Boot Time Scan !

So how to take the most out of your avast to do a Boot Time Scan . Just read on.

Many a times the same situation is faced by you of virus effect on your PC , But the virus being dispersed on random location of your system Files / Folders and Drives that scanning only System files aren't just enough for you , so how to take the most out of your avast! .

Here are few reasons that avast acts lesser effective then it should be.

• You didn't let avast do its VRDB generation atleast once in full . (In case any of you wonder whats that then lemme tell you that its a similar feature to AVG / Quick Heal of "Repairing" or "Healing" an infected file) , For Other AV its automatic but for avast you have to run it manually once atleast. To do it your system currently should be clean from malwares and viruses . Go to the System Tray right click the avast "a" icon or "i" icon and select "Generate VRDB Now!"

Do it atleast once so it can register in what state your current files are in , So it can cure it back later when required (Infected) .

• Another Reason is the NON regular updation of Virus Signature . These signature needs to be kept updated in order to let your AV know how to deal with the Virus it detects and how to cure it.

Also First of all it helps in the "Detection" of a virus. So keep the signature updated.

• Your system configration is too low. Well it happends sometimes that many users run much heavy applications and do simultaneous works besides keeping the AV to do its job.Here the AV may tend to become slow a bit , So its detection time may lag. In such cases don't depend on the automatic scans always and do a manual scan over the pen drives or downloaded files and all.

Well the above points should keep your AV healthy to keep your system Clean , and now comes the Cover Story !!

Taking MOST out of your avast! Boot Time Scan !

Some points to remember before scheduling the scan .

• You don't know where the Virus is , But the AV does , so let it scan all of your computer.
• Quarentining Won't help you if its infected , because it will again infect your file when back to its location.
• Don't keep the Virus or infected file. Simple rule , if you keep it then its again going to infect and this time damage can be even more.
• Allow infected system files to be deleted , yeah may shock you but really , if a System file is infected then it can actively participate in infecting your PC from beginning so allow it to get deleted , and the core system files can be replaced using OS's Setup CD/DVD anytime so don't fear it.

So taken note of above that and we are going to proceed now.

To Schedule a Boot time Scan you have to Start avast! first so ..

Start -> (All) Programs -> avast! Antivirus -> avast! Antivirus

Let it scan the memory , after it do proceed next , in the Main UI go to

Menu -> Schedule Boot Time Scan

After than a Boot Time Schedule Dialog will get open , there just watch the screenshot and copy the Settings as given below.

That is

Scan All of your Disk Area for Infection

Also Scan Archived / Compressed Files [Normally AV Skips that]

Schedule it to delete the infected file when found.

And allow deletion of Infected System Files.

All of the reasons of why you should do that is given in above Paragraph !!

As far as i have experienced till now , this is the Best way you can get your AV to give you the Best results as well as how to get the best out of your Boot Time Scan using avast!

As due to todays Requirement for Data Hungry User's Need for Backing data up , they frequently face this question sometimes.

What is the Ideal / Optimum / Preffered Speed of Burning Data ?

Well here is what i think

As Per my opinion Burn the Data as fast as you can i.e. the Fastest Speed available for that Media for Burning ! I am saying this becoz it depends on a Number of Factors other than the Media Being Burned on , So grab a good Burning Software , Make sure not many memory intensive program are going on , Set the speed to max and Burn On !! , You shouldn't face any problems until

• Too many / Heavy Applications and Memory Intensive jobs are going on , which is interfering with the Burning Application.
• You Media is Lightly damaged / Scratched.
• You Writer is creating issues.

In Short Burn with Full Speeds , Dun worry , If any problem occurs then Do remember to save the error log for further analysis of the main reason.

Unexpected Change of File Format

Well recently i saw many issues with the problem stating that on a user's PC a few files (say their mp3 collection) changed completly to another format and looked like a JPG / AVI One (Only the ICON) , So what to do in such cases ?

Explanation : There is a possibility that some malware has RENAMED those mp3 files (in this case ) with the jpg / avi extension .

Well the users should try the following , it works for most cases (100% success rate till i experienced).

Just use program like Antrenamer to revert the file name change back to normal.That is they just have to change the file extension from jpg to mp3.

Before Doing it : They can check whether this "Renaming" is the case Openup My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Uncheck "Hide extension for know file...." and click OK. Now they will be able to see the file name extensions , so just go to the File which has become jpg from mp3 and change the extension back to mp3.And play it , if it plays correctly then AntRenamer could do the job. And if playing fails then , they should get a Good AV and do a scan in Safe Mode. Backup their system and Perform a Clean Install.
